Basic information on possible options for obtaining a residence permit

  • Employment Contract

    On the basis of an employment contract, a non-resident has the right to obtain a residence permit with the right to work in Latvia. Processing time up to 6 months. For a company inviting an employee, there are one-time processing costs (preparation of documents, state duties and fees, medical insurance) and monthly expenses for wages and related taxes. Family members of an employee can also obtain a residence permit at the same time as the employee.

  • EU Blue Card

    On the basis of an employment contract, a non-resident highly qualified specialist has the right to obtain a residence permit with the right to work in Latvia. Be sure to confirm your education. Registration term is up to 6 months. For a company inviting an employee, there are one-time processing costs (preparation of documents, state duties and fees, medical insurance) and monthly expenses for wages and related taxes. Family members of an employee can also obtain a residence permit at the same time as the employee.

  • Student Residence Permit

    On the basis of a study agreement with an accredited Latvian university, a non-resident has the right to obtain a residence permit, with the right to work with a limitation of 20 hours a week. Processing time is 2-3 months.

  • Capital investment

    Issued for up to 5 years. The minimum capital investment of a Latvian company is 50,000€, where no more than 50 employees are employed and the company's annual turnover does not exceed 10,000,000€. One-time state fee is 10 000€. Registration term is 1.5-2 months.

  • Startup program

    Issued for a period not exceeding 3 years. The term for processing documents is 1.5 months. It is mandatory to have an innovative product or a high-tech idea. After obtaining a residence permit, within 3 months it is necessary to register a Latvian company and enter the board. Within 2 years, it is necessary to attract an investor to the project in the amount from 15,000€ to 30,000€, depending on the investor. Proof of wealth – 6,000 €.

  • Real estate investment

    To qualify for a residence permit based on real estate investment, it is necessary to purchase real estate in Riga or in the Riga region in the amount of at least 250,000€. Processing time 2 months.
