In practice, accountants or licensed accounting agencies usually handle this on behalf of companies.

New company or shelf company – which path to choose?
Starting a business is much like buying a home – you can either build it from the ground up, tailoring every detail to your needs, or move straight into a ready-made solution that lets you start operating immediately.

Registering a New Company
This is like building a house from scratch. You can fully customize the company’s name, business activity, and legal structure. It’s the perfect option if you want complete control over your business development and are ready to invest the time in shaping it.
Purchasing a Shelf Company
This is like moving into a home that’s already built. You gain a company with a registered name, potential VAT number, operating history, and in some cases even the necessary licenses. No waiting, no complex paperwork, no bureaucracy – everything is ready so you can begin operations the very same day.
No matter which option you choose, we’ll support you with all legal and financial matters to ensure your business is ready to launch as quickly as possible.
Branch or representative office registration in Latvia
If you are a foreign entrepreneur looking to start operations in Latvia, you have two options – registering a branch or establishing a representative office. Both solutions allow you to be legally present in Latvia while keeping your company’s legal status abroad.
Branch. A branch is not a separate legal entity – it operates on behalf of the parent company based on authorization. All branch assets belong to the foreign company, and the parent company remains legally responsible for its activities. Importantly, branch registration does not require share capital.
Representative Office. A representative office is not intended for direct commercial activities. Its main purpose is to represent the foreign company in Latvia, conduct market research, exchange information, and prepare the groundwork for future business development in the region. Like a branch, it is not a separate legal entity and cannot conclude contracts or carry out sales in the company’s name.

Registration Process
Branch registration with the Latvian Register of Enterprises usually takes 1–3 business days. The process can be completed remotely (with e-signature) or in person.
The ACCOUNTANCY LATVIA team will prepare and submit all the necessary documents on your behalf.
